We present to you the beginning of the full scale bogie team blog for the SPARTAN Superway.
Our team consists of:
Roger Pacilan
Jinhao Cui
Dan Espinosa.
Our short-term deliverables are to research prior art, reach out to the Spring/summer teams for a pass-down, and begin to understand the Futran track system, so that we may begin to adapt existing parts and ideas to the new profile. We will also need to get the basic vehicle specifications from higher authority, in order to lay out the bogies to achieve the end goal of a reliable, expandable transportation system.
The basic information we need includes:
Total suspended mass of vehicle
Desired gradabiliy
Desired acceleration/braking rates
Volume required for power, communications and sensors (from Controls team)
Overall size of bogie allowable (from Track/Structures Team)
Steering angle/ minimum radius of curvature (from Track Structure Team)
Desire for reversibility through switches (reverse steering?)
Desire for an e-brake/parking brake.
We will be interfacing regularly with the structures team to determine how best to achieve the switching/steering capability that differentiates the Superway from existing monorail system.
